Pedro Talks retirement

On ESPN.com, Pedro Martinez said that he will most likely retire after the 2008 season, since he wants to spend more time with his family and friends. He also said that his toe is really hurting so bad after every game.

“I’ve sacrificed my life, my good years, to baseball. I want to go home while I still have the energy to spend time with my family. Work is good and it dignifies men, but I want to enjoy the fruits of my efforts. I plan to enjoy a nice retirement and a healthy life after baseball.”

“I don’t want to leave the game on crutches or in a wheelchair without having dedicated myself to my children and my family,” he added.

“I’ve done a lot in a short period of time, and now my body must pay the price. A lot of people get startled by the fact that I’m 34, but the thing is that in seven years I worked more than 95 percent of the pitchers in MLB,” Martinez said.

“I’ll most likely retire after this contract, but it’ll depend on how I’m feeling at the time, and if I’m feeling then like I am now, my Dominican fans and my family wouldn’t forgive me if I don’t retire.”

Martinez, who leads the National League with 80 strikeouts, revealed that he is not completely recovered from an injury to the big toe on his right foot, which kept him from playing for his country in the World Baseball Classic and limited his spring training practice.

“After every game, my foot swells and I have to go through an intense process of massages and treatment for four days to prevent the swelling,” he said. The only day I don’t work my foot is the day before the game.”

Martinez, who wears a shoe specially designed by Nike to keep the injury from getting worse, will make his next start Wednesday against Arizona in New York.

Mets get El Duque for Julio.

May 28, 2006 · Filed Under Mets · Comment

The Mets traded Jorge Julio for Orlando Hernandez two days ago to the D-Backs.
-This trade definitley helps both teams. The Mets needed a boost in their rotation, while the D-backs needed a boost in their pen. This makes the Mets rotation great with many veteran pitchers who haven’t exactly threw fast their whole career, except Pedro used to be fast. The new rotation includes Pedro, Glavine, Trachsel, El Duque, which is a great rotation.
Today, El Duque make his Mets debut against the Marlins at 1:20 PM

The first two games of the series were split between the Mets and the Marlins.

Pedro lost his first game, which he shouldn’t have, and the team always lets him down when it comes to giving him run support in his last 5 starts or so.

In the second game, Glavine threw good, and the Mets won, David Wright, who was sitting out the day before with back spasms, came back and got on base every time he got up to bat.

Wagner blows 4 run lead in game 2, Mets win game 3

Game 2— Yanks 5, Mets 4
Mets’ closer, Billy Wagner gave up 4 runs in game 2. PATHETIC. It happens, I know, but against the YANKEES. C’mon.

After 3 pitchers in the Top of the Ninth, the Mets and Yankees fought until the Yankees ended up winning in the 11th.

-Cliff Floyd came out of his slump for an at-bat, crushing the ball over the right field wall at Shea Stadium.

-Pedro pitched a GREAT GAME but, again, it has to be someone to BLOW IT when he pitches, which is 4 straight games where he has pitched great and the team can’t give him any help, resulting in a no-decision.

GAME 3–

Yanks start by scoring 2, Mets eventually score 4, and then later in the game, Yankees score 1, Mets win with a score of 4-3.

Glavine pitched well, allowing two runs in the fourth inning and seven hits and four walks in six innings.

Wagner pitched fantastic, closing the game.

Delgado crushed the ball into right field for a home run.

Immediately following, Wright crushed it to left field as it bounced into the streets of Queens.

Mets take the series, 3 games to 1.

Mets get day off, then Phils come to town for 3 games, VERY IMPORTANT SERIES.

The next subway series will take place at Yankees Stadium in late June running into early July.

EACH game of the first subway series were ONE POINT final scores.

Mets take 1st of 3 vs Yanks

Mets 7, Yanks 6

David Wright saved the day against Mariano Rivera, Randy Johnson, and the Yankees. The game started out with the Yankees clobbering the Mets, but the Mets came back. This went on all game until the Top of the ninth, Wagner got the save, and the Mets came and broke a tie in the bottom of the ninth. The Yankees intentionally walked Delgado after Lo Duca’s double, and that cost the Yankees after Wright hit the ball over Damon’s head.

Neither starting pitcher pitched well at all, as I expected, and I thought it was gonna be a high scoring game, I was right.

Beltran homered, Nady Homered, and that was it for the homers, since the rest were done with hits and sac flys.

- METS NEED TO LOSE LIMA -

Jose Lima is so old and horrible at pitching that it is pathetic now. He is 0-3 and hes not getting any better…

BRING UP PELFRY ALREADY.

ALSO, Bannister is expected to make 2 more rehab starts, so the Mets won’t see him for another 2 weeks or so on the field.

TOMORROW

MUSSINA @ MARTINEZ

should be a good one, which is game 2 of a 3 game series,
