PostGame: Phils vs. Mets
Final: Mets 5, Phillies 3. Mets take the series, two games to one. The Mets improved their record to 6-3, and the Phillies record drops to 2-7.
After finishing up the series, Glavine started off rocky, allowing two homers in the first two innings, both by Jimmy Rollins. During Ryan Howard’s at-bat in the first inning, Lo Duca threw out Victorino, who was caught stealing. Jose Reyes had a GREAT tag to get the out. In that inning, Glavine walked three and allowed a HR, but got out of the inning
with only one run.
In the bottom of the first, Reyes led off with a single, followed by Paul Lo Duca with ANOTHER single, and Reyes stole third before things calmed down. Things were not calm for long, as Beltran hit a single on a successful hit-n-run attempt for the Mets, who tied the game as Reyes flew home. In the top of the second, Rollins hit another HR, and it was 3-1, Phillies lead.
In the second, the Mets needed a perfect bunt from Glavine. It was perfect alright, as it forced the Phillies to throw it over Howard’s head and the Mets came within a run, 3-2.
In the fourth, Jose Reyes singled to left, scoring Moises Alou, and then Easley as the Mets took the lead, 4-3.
In the fifth, Wright walked and stole second base during Alou’s at-bat, in which he struck out ending the inning.
Throughout the middle of the game, Glavine seemed great with 1-2-3 innings and, for example, striking out Howard in the sixth. After walking three batters early, he didn’t walk anybody for the rest of the game.
In the seventh inning, Joe Smith came into pitch in place of Glavine, allowing no runs.
David Wright hit a triple in the seventh inning to extend his hitting streak to 21 games. Moises Alou hit a single to drive in Wright, and the Mets took a 5-3 lead.
In the eighth, Schoeneweis walked the first batter, but got Rollins to pop up, then victorino grounded into a double play to end the inning.
Wagner came in for the ninth in a save situation as the score was 5-3, and picked up the save to grab the win and end the series. He allowed one hit (Howard), and that was all.
Next Series: The Mets take on the Nationals for three games, who played a great game vs. the Braves tonight. Former Mets coach Manny Acta had a closed-door Meeting with the team to try and turn things around, as they had only one win.

Preview: The Mets (5-3) and Phillies (2-6) play the rubber game of their three-game, home-opening series today at Shea Stadium, a day before the Mets welcome in the Washington Nationals, and former Mets 3rd Base coach, Manny Acta for a three-game series at Shea Stadium.
Lineup:
1. Jose Reyes SS
2. Paul Lo Duca C
3. Carlos Beltran CF
4. Carlos Delgado 1B
5. David Wright 3B
6. Moises Alou LF
7. Shawn Green RF
8. Damion Easley 2B - Appears as if Willie is giving Valentin the day off
9. Tom Glavine P
Pitching Matchup: Tom Glavine (1-1, 2.38 ERA) vs. Jamie Moyer (1-0, 2.70 ERA).
Battle of the Grandpas: Glavine, 41, is coming off a rocky start during a cold day in Atlanta last week, as he tries to turn things around in his first home start of the year and pick up win number 292. Jamie Moyer, 44, is coming off of a nice start against the Marlins, where he allowed two runs in 6 2/3 innings.
Who to Watch: David Wright has been powerless this year, as third-year manager Willie Randolph announced that he is a bit concerned, power-wise for Wright.
Think it’s that whole Home Run Derby? I don’t know… but it’s something…
On the bright side, Wright has a twenty-game hitting streak, in which he extended last night in the ninth inning…
…Carlos Delgado needs to get his power going, as he has yet to hit a home run, but sooner or later I know he’ll get into a hot streak. Delgado is one of the most inconsistent Mets hitters, as I have seen him hit four homers in three days, and I’ve seen him hit 1-for-38.
Coming Up:
Mets welcome in Manny Acta and the Washington Nationals (1-8) tomorrow for a three game set, starting at 7:10 PM. Mike Pelfrey most likely will get his first start of the season, as he won the number five spot in the rotation following a strong Spring Training. He will face off against righty John Patterson, who is 0-2 with a 9.35 ERA
Use your head, Rollins.
According to the NY Post, New York Met fans were heckling Jimmy Rollins all night last
night. I certainly expect that…. Then, the NY Post goes on to state that Jimmy Rollins started yelling back, saying things like “I don’t see any rings on your fingers.”
I thought major league players were taught and learned not to talk back to opposing fans, since it could get them in much more trouble, and worse, it could affect their play.
With Rollins yelling back, it most likely caused the Met fans to yell even more, as he was teasing them and pretty much asking for more.
Jimmy Rollins, use your small head. It’s called common sense.
