PreGame: Mets/Brewers; Pelfrey Down, Gomez up

May 13, 2007 · Filed Under Mets

Today the Mets and Brewers play the rubber game of a three game series at Shea Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 PM, and the weather at Shea is great, with temperatures in the mid-60’s with sunny skies.

To celebrate Mother’s Day, teams in the majors will use pink bats.

Mets.com reports the The New York Mets have optioned Mike Pelfrey to Triple-A New Orleans and have called up Zephyrs’ OF Carlos Gomez.

I can’t wait to see how fast Gomez runs… I know he beats Reyes in the offseason in the Domincan Republic when they race each other. The lineup says that Gomez will start tonight. This must be somewhat surprising to him that he was just called up and at the same time he was called upon to start his major league debut.

It’s about time the Mets have sent down Pelfrey. He kept getting excuses and reasons to stay up and he hasn’t won a game and its May 12.

Pitching matchup:

Lefty Oliver Perez (3-3, 3.48 ERA) will make his seventh start of the season. He’ll be facing the undefeated Chris Capuano (5-0, 2.31 ERA).

Almost automatically since Lo Duca started yesterday’s day game after night game, he’ll sit today. Green also is getting a break, while Moises Alou is day-to-day with a quad injury after leaving in the middle of yesterday’s 12-3 loss to the Brewers

Lineup:

1. Reyes SS

2. Easley 2B

3. Beltran CF

4. Delgado 1B

5. Wright 3B

6. Castro C

7. Chavez LF

8. Gomez RF

9. Perez P
