Veteran free-agent closer Hoffman interested in Mets
December 3, 2008 · Filed Under Mets
Rick Thurman, who is Trevor Hoffman’s agent, has notified the New York Post that the Mets and Hoffman were planning a meeting in Las Vegas, New York, or both. Hoffman, 41, had 30 saves last season for the Padres.
I am not against the Mets acquiring Hoffman if they are unable to make a deal with Francisco Rodriguez or another closer. I’d much rather have Hoffman be a closer at his age than what the Mets’ method of a closer at the end of this past season. Hoffman’s numbers were not bad last year, and don’t forget that he is the all-time saves leader. Why not give it a shot for a season to kick off CitiField?
